I always write on the road, either sat on the balcony of the flat I am renting, overlooking the rooftops of Rome or a wrought iron balcony in Paris, or in a cafe, taking a break from exploring a new city. I usually stick to the same routine. I wake up early, pack my bag, eat a quick breakfast and head out into the city I happen to be in at that time. I carry a notebook to scribble down all of my ideas as I walk around during the day. Around late afternoon I and then go to a market, find some food to take home with me and spend the evening typing up my freehand notes onto my laptop.
